Frequently Asked Questions

How will money donated to the foundation be spent?

Every dollar donated to the foundation will go towards benefiting those in need in Johnson County, Missouri. Transparency is a top priority in everything we do. All income and expenses are tabulated in monthly statements that are available to any interested parties on this website under the Refuge On Ming tab at the top of the page, select Shelter Details. Paid staff work most nights of the week to have the shelter dependably open every night, but the directors, officers, and volunteer leaders of the foundation will not be compensated.

Will my donation be tax-deductible?

Yes. The foundation is registered as a recognized nonprofit with the state of Missouri, as can be verified on the Missouri Secretary of State’s website. We have also been recognized legally as a 501(c)(3) by the IRS.

How is the foundation run?

The foundation has a board of directors consisting of three people: Justin Johnson; Wende Verdeja; and Nick McDaniels. There are two officers: Nick McDaniels, president; and Samantha McDaniels, secretary treasurer. Key volunteers will advise and assist with every aspect of the development of the policies, procedures, and facilitating activities. Multiple people provide staffing to engage in the day to day operations of managing the shelter as funding and circumstances allow.

Is the foundation a religious organization?

The foundation is legally a secular corporation. It is not controlled by or motivated by any one church or denomination. It IS a faith-based organization, and we engage with each individual in the name of Jesus Christ. We will minister to the physical needs of our neighbors in order to demonstrate the everlasting love that was shown to us by our Creator and King. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and a relationship with Him is the only path to living in Heaven eternally with God. We will not force our faith on anyone, nor will we hide it.
